E-portfolio NL
In the Netherlands the educational and business sectors stimulate the use of ePortfolios. An ePortfolio is a digital, personal file containing learning and work data; it can serve its owner for a lifetime. Thanks to Kennisnet’s ePortfolio NL project the parties involved established agreements regarding the exchange of ePortfolio data. In this leaflet you will read more about the project, the agreements and how things work in practice.
The ePortfolio NL project: agreements about data exchange
ePortfolio systems in educational institutions, employment agencies and the labour market should use the same specifications so that data can be exchanged. Initiatives have therefore been developed to stimulate the use of standardized ePortfolios. The ePortfolio NL project supports this in various ways:
- by setting up a system of agreements at a national level: the ePortfolio NL agreements
- by informing (potential) participants of the ePortfolio NL agreements
- by stimulating the use of the ePortfolio NL agreements.
Achievements
The goal of the project is to arrive at a complete set of agreements concerning the use and the exchange of ePortfolios.
- Agreements: agreements have been established regarding the technical specifications of data to be exchanged.
- A reference structure: a reference structure has been designed which includes an overview of the principles applying to the use of ePortfolios in the Netherlands.
- Practical support: thirteen pilot projects have been stimulated by means of technical, content-related and financial support.
- Improvements based on practical experience: practical experience has been used to further improve the agreements. Technical documentation and specifications have been produced for several practical projects, which serve as models for other projects.
- Support base: a large number of organizations in education and business are involved in the development of the agreements and many have adopted them.
- Knowledge sharing: participants and interested parties are constantly exchanging their knowledge and experience at various conferences.
The ePortfolio NL agreements
The ePortfolio NL agreements are based on the ePortfolio specifications of the international organization IMS Global Learning Consortium, which means that ePortfolio data can also be exchanged internationally. The ePortfolio NL specification is further explained by means of practical examples. To improve the ease of use, the terms have also been translated into Dutch.
The agreements will be handed over to a management organization which will manage and maintain them. This organization will make sure that the agreements remain up to date. Parties involved may also turn to this management organization if they have any questions about the agreements or their application within their own organizations.
